From a business idea written on the back of a napkin, to one of Australia's leading cosmetics brands, Designer Brands celebrates 10 successful years in 2016
Launched a decade ago, by husband and wife team, Tony and Sharon Rechtman of Total Beauty Network, Designer Brands (DB) was created to challenge the notion that affordable cosmetics were not as good quality as high-end brands.
While living in the United States, Sharon and Tony noticed that women in LA managed to look a million dollars wearing high street fashion brands, yet in cosmetics, inexpensive more often than not meant poor quality.
The pair devised their big plan on the back of a napkin over dinner, to create great quality, affordable cosmetics that would be better than the high-end brands, and moved back to Australia to launch DB with 15 products and one staff member (Tony!)
10 years on and DB sells over 2 million products each year in over 4,000 pharmacies across Australia, cementing their place as a pioneer in the area of quality affordable makeup. DB prides itself on the fact that all products are free of nasties such as parabens, talc and bismuth. On top of that, DB have also obtained Vegan and Cruelty Free Certifications across the entire makeup range.
In 2011, DB's parent company, Total Beauty Network, was named as one of the country's fastest growing companies in the BRW Fast 100 List and the company now employs over 65 staff.
