No matter how much you love doing your makeup, chances are you don’t want to do it twice in one day. This can be a little challenging if you’re heading out after work, or if your weekend afternoon plans suddenly morph into evening activities.
Thankfully, you don’t need to completely redo your day makeup in order to nail the perfect night out makeup look.
Whether you’re dashing from the picnic to the party or the boardroom to the bar, there are a few easy ways to add drama to your day makeup look without having to start from scratch. Don’t believe us? Read on to discover our top day to night makeup looks and learn how to transition your look without a single makeup wipe in sight.
1. Amp Up your Eyeshadow
If you’re anything like us, chances are that you stick to simple eye makeup during the day. Keeping it simple with neutral eyeshadows and a coat (or several) of mascara cuts down the time you spend doing your makeup in the morning, and we’re all about efficiency! Better yet, keeping your eye makeup minimal during the day can help you nail a dramatic eyeshadow look come sundown.
Instead of wiping off your eye makeup and starting from scratch, just build on the colours you already have on your eyes. If you’re rocking a light eyeshadow, choose a darker shade that complements that colour and work it into the outer corners of your eyes. And if you’re wearing a shimmery eyeshadow, try layering a matte shadow on top. They add depth, and blend well for a flawless result.
WIth 6 shades in a spectrum of colours and matte and shimmer finishes, our Eye See You Eyeshadow Palette - Smoke & Glitter and Eye See You Eyeshadow Palette - Coco Loco are perfect for layering eye makeup for a night out. Thanks to their super-pigmented but fine formulas, these shadows are easy to layer and blend until you get your desired result.
Top Tip: Want to take the glam factor to the next level? Try our newly launched, limited edition Crystal Glimmer Lipstick Palette with six super pigmented, blendable shades.
2. Reach for a Lengthening Mascara
Once your eyeshadow is done, turn your attention to your lashes. If you wear mascara during the day, don’t just add a few more coats when it’s time to touch up. You’ll only end up with clumping, which looks messy.
The key is to use two different mascaras: One that lengthens, and one that thickens. In the morning, apply our Absolute Lash Lengthening Mascara from the root to the tip of your lashes. One of our best mascaras for dramatic lashes, it will lift your lashes, make your eyes pop and help you fake a full eight hours of sleep.
Come nighttime, brush through your lashes with a clean mascara wand to get rid of any flakes or clumps. Then, grab a volumising mascara and work it from the middle of your lashes to the tip for a false lash effect. The False & Flared Mascara is the best mascara for volume, and it’ll give you the lush, fluttery lashes you need to add some drama to your look.
3. Add Definition with Liquid Liner
To finish up your eyes, take the drama up another notch with liquid eyeliner. The Absolute Liquid Eyeliner Pen is a longwearing, smudge-proof formula that delivers a rich black pigment.
Plus, its pointed felt tip applicator makes it easy to apply. If you’re not super confident with liquid liner, don’t worry: The creamy Kohl Eye Pencil will do the trick, too.
Here’s how to nail your Dramatic Eyeliner look:
- Dot liquid liner onto your upper lash line, so you know where to draw your eyeliner.
- Gently swipe your liner across your eyelid, flicking up when you reach the outer corner. This will help to open up your eyes and make them look brighter and more awake.
- Layer the eyeliner until you get the look that you want.
- Clean up any smudges or uneven spots with a Q-tip.
Top Tip: Eyes looking a little tired? Apply our Pigmented Plus Water Resistant Retractable Eyeliner in Nude Creme along the lower lashline to reduce redness and make the whites of your eyes look even whiter.
4. Tame your Brows
We’ll let you in on a little beauty secret: Learning how to groom your brows is the best way to look polished with very little effort. If you already filled in your brows for your daytime look, you may only need to do a quick touch-up.
Not sure how to define your brows? We love the Brow Power Tinted Brow Gel to tint the hair and add texture, and the Extend A Brow to fill in any gaps and instantly thicken the brows.
If your brows are in pretty good shape, focus on taming any unruly hairs with a clear brow product, like the Un-brow-lievable Clear Brow Gel. This will smooth your brows and make sure they stay in place all night.
5. Pop on a Bold Lip
When you’re at work or running errands, a lip balm or nude lip is more than enough. But once you clock off for the day, why not rock a bold lip? A good lipstick can really boost your mood and take your look to the next level.
Wondering how to wear a bold lip? It’s all in the prep. Before you pick up your lipstick, exfoliate your lips and apply a lip balm. The Lip Elixir Nourishing Lip Treatment is one of our handbag heroes, and will help to moisturise and nourish your lips so your lipstick glides on smoothly.
Then, choose a budge-proof matte lipstick in a red, pink, or peachy shade. We like the Lip Stix Creamy Matte Lip Crayon in Ballet Slipper, Cherry Pop, or Mad for Mauve. The creamy formula feels comfortable on the lips, and won’t crack or smudge even after eating and drinking.
6. Spritz on a Setting Spray
Ideally, you want to refresh your makeup look without washing everything off and starting over. That’s where a setting spray comes in.
The Mist Me Setting Spray in Rosewater will revive your base and pep up your lived-in makeup so it looks fresh and dewy for longer. It’s also packed with Hyaluronic Acid, Cucumber Juice, and Q10 to hydrate your skin and give it a healthy glow, making it one of the best setting sprays for dry skin.
If you want to dial up the glow even further, try the Mist Me Setting Spray in White Gold. It’s infused with peptides to invigorate the skin and shimmer particles to add radiance.
7. Blot excess oil with a Powder
If you’ve been wearing makeup all day, you might be a little shiny come 5pm. We’ve all been there. The good news? That’s easily fixed.
Dust on an ultra-fine setting powder, like the Hydra Set Translucent Setting Powder. The best setting powder for controlling excess shine, it’ll mop up and mattify your look without making you look patchy and washed out. As a bonus, it contains Hyaluronic Acid to hydrate the skin, and Green Tea to fend off the bacteria that causes breakouts. What more could you ask for?
